Kansas City might not be as well-known as places like New York or Los Angeles, but that does not mean that new residents cannot find plenty of exciting excursions to keep them occupied. There are many family-friendly things to do in and around the greater KC area. Here are six that you might want to check out once you complete your move to Kansas City.
1. Kansas City Royals
The Kansas City Royals play in Kauffman Stadium, which sits just a few miles outside of the city center. The Royals have a long and successful history, winning the World Series in both 1985 and 2015. While box seat tickets can be a bit expensive, some seats are pretty cheap, and that will still provide an enjoyable experience that families can use to create memories.
2. Harry S Truman Presidential Library And Museum
Located in nearby Independence, the Harry S Truman Presidential Library and Museum chronicles the life and times of the nation’s thirty-third president. Artifacts from his life and some interactive exhibits make a trip to the Truman Museum a great opportunity for families to learn about US history and one of its more consequential presidents.
3. Kansas Speedway
Going back to the sports theme, on the Kansas side of the KC metro area sits Kansas Speedway. This 1.5-mile track hosts two annual events in NASCAR’s top series among its nearly 200 yearly events. The NASCAR races have recently taken place in May and October. The latter race is a part of the Chase playoff that decides the annual NASCAR champion.
4. The National World War I Museum And Memorial
One of the most popular museums in the KC metro area, the National WWI Museum, and Memorial holds one of the most comprehensive collections of World War I artifacts. While this might not be the most fun excursions for new residents of Kansas City, it is definitely a worthwhile visit that has much to teach today’s generation. As many people have said, “Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
5. Worlds Of Fun
Of all the fun things to do in the Kansas City area, Worlds of Fun has the word in its name. This amusement park is open during the week in the summer months and on the weekends through October. Some rides and attractions will entertain visitors of just about any age. Thrill seekers will enjoy riding the six roller coasters that are found within the confines of Worlds of Fun. There’s also an area set aside for kids, complete with a Peanuts theme.
6. The Money Museum
Located within a short walking distance of the National WWI Museum, the Money Museum is housed in the Kansas City branch of the Federal Reserve. Exhibits include a view of old money and opportunities to learn about the US economy. Those with an interest in money will find much to interest them at the Money Museum.
These are just six of the great attractions that families who’ve relocated to Kansas City can enjoy. There are many more. KC is a cosmopolitan city with lots to do for people of all ages.
